Privacy Policy

HopeAruba respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what rights you have under Aruba's data-protection law (Landsverordening Bescherming Persoonsgegevens, or LBPP) and, where it applies, the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who we are

This site is operated by HopeAruba Movement Foundation, a non-profit civic movement based in Aruba. If you have any questions about your data or this policy, you can reach us at info@hopearuba.org.

2. What personal information we collect

We only collect information you give us through forms on this site. We do not use tracking pixels, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics.

3. Why we collect it

• To respond to you. Answering questions, following up on applications, and processing donations.
• To send you communications you asked for. Our newsletter, community updates, and stories about our work.
• To operate our programs. Reviewing HopeFlix submissions, evaluating Hope Academy applications, and running the movement generally.
• To meet our legal obligations. Nonprofit accounting, tax, and reporting requirements.

4. Our legal basis

Under the LBPP and the GDPR, we rely on one of the following whenever we process your data:

• Your consent - for the newsletter and the Hope News access form. You give it by submitting the form and can withdraw it at any time.
• Steps to fulfill a request - when you contact us, apply to a program, or make a donation.
• Legitimate interest - for reasonable operational and security purposes.
• Legal obligation - where the law requires us to keep certain records.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We only share it with the service providers we need to run this site, and only to the extent needed:

• Vercel - hosts this website and runs the small server-side functions that receive our form submissions.
• Teable - stores form submissions (newsletter signups, contact messages, applications, etc.) so we can act on them.
• Google Fonts - serves the Raleway typeface used on the site.
• YouTube and Vimeo - deliver embedded videos where we use them. If you play or interact with an embedded video, those services may set their own cookies.

We may also share information when required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of people or the integrity of our operations.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics. This site uses one small piece of browser storage to remember something you actively opted into:

You can clear this at any time in your browser's site-data settings. Some embedded content (such as a YouTube or Vimeo video) may set its own cookies when you interact with it - those cookies are controlled by the respective provider.

7. How long we keep your data

As a general rule, we keep your information only for as long as it is useful for the purpose we collected it - or until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it, whichever comes first.

• Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us at any time to be removed.
• Contact messages: for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry, or until you ask us to delete the message - whichever comes first.
• Program applications and submissions: for the duration of the program cycle, or until you ask us to remove your information - whichever comes first (subject to any records we are legally required to keep).
• Donation records: retained as long as required by nonprofit accounting and tax law. Where the law does not require us to keep a record, we will delete it on request.

When data is no longer needed - or when you ask us to remove it - we delete or anonymize it, except where a specific law requires us to keep it longer.

8. Your rights

Under the LBPP - and, where the GDPR applies to you, under the GDPR - you have the right to:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date.
• Ask us to delete your information, subject to any legal obligation we have to keep it.
• Withdraw your consent at any time (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter).
• Object to or restrict certain uses of your information.
• Request a copy of your information in a portable format.
• File a complaint with the data-protection authority in your jurisdiction if you believe we have not handled your data properly.

9. How we protect your data

We keep your information on trusted platforms (Vercel and Teable) that use industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Access inside our organization is limited to the people who need it to do their work. No system is perfect, but we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to keep your data safe.

10. International transfers

Our providers (Vercel, Teable, Google Fonts) may store or process data outside of Aruba, including in the United States and the European Union. Where required, we rely on those providers' standard contractual protections to safeguard your information.

11. Children

This website is not directed at children under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make a meaningful change, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Please review it periodically.
